Straya Day- Australian national day

26th of January is Australia day [Straya day] that's the national day of Australia.

It's the day to reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemorary Australia an to acknowledge the Austrlian history.

Furthermore it's an important date in Australia's history and has changed over time.

Australia day started as a celebration for emancipated convicts.
Now its mora a celebration of Australia that reflects the nation's diverse people.
26th of Januar has been a difficult symbol for many Aboriginal people as well as for Torres Strait Islander people. They see this date as a day of sorrow and mourning.

Nowadays people give thought to how lucky we are to live in Australia and celebrate the freedom we have to live in Australia.

Tomorrow is a public holiday because Straya day is on a sunday this year.

How people celebrate this date:

- There are some parades in the cities, I've been to the one in our city
- Families are having a party and invite their friends, they say "it's more than a day off".
We will not have a party or go to one.
t's the birthday of one daughter of the family so normally their celebrating her birthday but she's in canada right now.
